Employment History

Heather Shannon has been a Registered Veterinary Technologist for over 30 years. During this time, she has worked for mixed animal practices in BC and Alberta and on a cattle ranch in BC as a herd health specialist. Heather was hired by the TRU AHT department in 2007, she is a full-time tenured faculty member with the achievement of Associate Teaching Professor and chair of the Animal Health Department at TRU. She has taught both onsite and distance courses and has been involved in updating and creating curriculum for Veterinary Technologists. Heather has been the President of the British Columbia Veterinary Technology Association, President of the Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada and has been instrumental in creating the Canadian National Standards of Practice for RVT's. She received National recognition when she was awarded the Registered Veterinary Technologist of Canada Making a Difference Award in 2019.

Courses Taught

Large Animal Clinics and Tours, Anatomy, Immunology, Veterinary Office Management and Computers, Animal Nursing (all levels), and Fieldwork Experience. I have taught courses for both the Onsite and the Distance programs.
